Intentions

Session Objectives (outcomes):  In order to communicate an email request and obtain a committed response, learners in this session will:

·         Compose an effective email request including all relevant information

·         Given an effective email request, write an effective response

Session Description (process):  Learners in this virtual session will describe and discuss common challenges with email communication, specifically when making requests. 

·         Who is the performer of the request?  (To:)

·         What is the request?  (specific, relevant conditions to satisfy the request)

·         When is the request due? (date, time)

·         Where should the performer complete the request?

·         How should you format your request?  (number of requests single message, bullets, details)

·         Why should the performer complete the request

Involve

During this session, we will discuss what is effective and what could be more effective with a few of your own email requests.

Learners in this session are encouraged to:

1.   Identify 2-3 email requests currently in your inbox or sent folder.  Said differently, find requests that you have made or others have requested of you.

2.   Copy and paste the subject line and body of the email into a Word Document.  Remove any confidential or personally identifying information.

3.   Keep the Word document open on your screen for reference.

Instruments

PC or MAC:  The virtual platform for this online learning conversation is www.freescreensharing.com  This tool will require a one-time download of the software, Adobe Flash Player and Java (if not already installed).  Refer to the FAQ for more information.  You will receive an INVITATION email link to access the meeting space after registration.
